Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo said on Thursday that the launch of digital technology in Ogun State has positioned the state to become a major global site in the emerging innovation economy.
The Vice President spoke virtually at the official launch of the Ogun Digital Economy Infrastructure Project (OGDEIP), at the Ogun TechHub, Abeokuta.
He added that Ogun has taken the lead in digital technology in the country through its massive investments in digital infrastructure.
The vice president said making digital technology available to all citizens and businesses is the most far-sighted action a government can take, as broadband and other technologies have become mandatory for any community that seeks meaningful growth, prosperity and security for its people.
Osinbajo believed that by bringing broadband access to homes and offices, the state government had succeeded in digitally opening up people not only to the country but to the world at large, adding that this was in line with the The federal government’s goal of providing all Nigerians with broadband access by 2023.
“Bridging the digital divide in the state will begin to improve education outcomes and provide opportunities for better access to education statewide, from primary to tertiary.
“The digital revolution that this project will bring will be a game-changer in all aspects, not in the socio-economic life of the state,” he added.
In his speech, State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun noted that his administration was aware of the many benefits that the population has continued to reap since the introduction of a digital economy as an important aspect of the implementing the Building Our Future Together program in Ogun. State.
“Since taking office in May 2019, we have continued to demonstrate our commitment to the development of the ICT industry for the continued growth and expansion of all sectors of the economy. The point is that the development and exploitation of digital resources will provide us with a secure means of harnessing a globally competitive citizenship and economy in our beloved state, ”he said.
The Governor maintained that the construction of our international Agro Cargo airport was part of the sound strategy of developing air transport infrastructure, in particular to boost the agricultural development program, while the power infrastructure project that would ensure the stability of electricity to most cities and clusters were being deployed.
He observed that the digital economy infrastructure was the backbone of the state’s ICT revolution, adding that the launch would further improve the ease of doing business in our state, as recent events have even shown the different roles of digital technologies in solving many human challenges. and transform all aspects of the economy.

Abiodun pointed out that the ICT industry has continued to account for over 21% of the state’s gross domestic product and has continued to provide countless job opportunities for increasingly educated and creative citizens.
Also speaking, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami, represented by the Executive Vice President of the National Communication Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta, said the project was timely because it would create new economic opportunities and improve the lives of the people. .
He said the digital economy was widely recognized as one of the engines of the global economy as it contributes to job creation, adding that it was one of the factors that helped the country to emerge. of the recession.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the Hon. Abubakar Suleja praised the state for being the first to achieve such a remarkable feat, saying it would go a long way in creating opportunities, especially for young people, and exposing the state to the international community.
He said his committee would work to encourage other states to emulate the example set by the state of Ogun in order to reap the benefits of broadband digital tell.
